the devil's in the details

as i stated in my last post, the devil is totally in the details. i'm wearing two colors from essie's new summer line and a bright blue from opi. but that's besides the point. the point is, i've matched my accent nails to my jewelry, and that my friends is how you create 'a look'.

the bees knees

Lately, I've been feeling the vibe that the devil is in the details. Matching your look to your nails, having just the right amount of accessories, the tiny things that work to complete an outfit. I was first stunned by the play of color in this manicure, so simple, so pretty, so delicate, and so summery. But the way this outfit was photographed - focusing attention to the detail of the bee brooch and the relationship of the bees to the bright colors in her nails really works out well in the styling of this look. KUDOS GIRL, you look fabulous.

nails like candy

how much do you love these nails? the light yet bright colors, and the seemingly random pattern. nails can be photographed beautifully without being weird or kitsch. they can also completely tie together a look.

re-mix

taking a bit of inspiration from my recent mani-re-mixes, lynnette hooked it up with these fabulous shades of metallic blue, green, and grey. i'm flattered that she took inspiration from some of my looks, but girl, this style is all you! keep the re-mixes coming, you got it going on - even if you're rooting for the heat...

if you like her nail art, why not check out some of her art art? she takes killer photographs, and also works with me at the museum!

dutch tulips

ranking just above turquoise and caicos by essie, dutch tulips by OPI is my all-time favorite nail polish color. it's cool because it's pink and girly, but a rich enough shade of pink that i'm set with two light coats - and it lasts forever as a pedicure.

do you have any colors that you gravitate towards? how about brands?

da mayor

If you aren't from Chicago, or maybe if you live under a rock, you won't know that our beloved mayor, Richard M. Daley retired last month. My friend Maud was born the weekend he came into office and her 23rd birthday happened to coincide perfectly with his last weekend as da Mayor. In honor of the big MD and Maud's lifespan overlapping his career, she threw a perfectly themed mayoral birthday party. And she not only dressed herself but her nails accordingly. Though the picture is blown out, please try to notice the detailing of the Chicago flag painstakingly painted on her thumbnails!

gradients of color

I love how Jenny moves through the various hues and shades of purple creating this wonderful study of the gradients of color akin to swatches in a paint shop. It's a fun way of showing off your manicured nails without looking like a little girl. I seriously love this look.
